Flamenco - Config - Cloud Cluster
This entire project could run in a cloud-provider k8s cluster and you would not have to invest in buying compute or fast network hardware.
The original idea behind this project was to build an edge-cluster out of typical PC hardware and not introduce the running fees assocaiated with cloud providers.
Benefits
A cloud-provider cluster solution is not cheap but there are some benefits:
- Cluster (kubernetes control-plane) maintenance is done for you.
- Hardware redudancy is much higher and easier to swap out/upgrade.
So it is a good solution for mission critical workflows where you can afford to rent the compute hardware using pre-paid savings plans.
Not completely ruled out…
Currently this project does not support running in a cloud provider.
There are project plans to allow the attachment cloud-compute nodes to this edge-cluster project to allow temporary scaling scenarios assuming there is very good network connectivity.
